Lucia heard about the SuperSized Kids 8-week Lifestyle Change Program on Channel 9 news in Orlando. She applied to help herself, her husband Jonathan and her 6 year-old son Braxton become motivated to loose weight and change the family's health outlook. With obesity a problem on both sides of the family Lucia does not want to pass it down to her six year old son Braxton. Nevertheless the Compher family realized it will not be an easy task.

With a family weight of 718 they realize change must happen to reduce their risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.

After being selected to join the SuperSized Kids 8-week program they headed to the RDV Sportsplex (A local health club) to begin working out. Lucia's immediate response was, "Wow! This is like a Disneyland for fat people." Braxton looks forward to "Wet Wednesday" where he can run around and play with squirt guns, water slides, and so much more. He is even proud to tell everyone that he has invented his own exercise game where he uses his arms to push himself across the floor.

Perhaps the biggest change for the Compher Family was the reduction of media time. Before starting the 8 week program, they kept the television on 24 hours a day.

After reading SuperSized Kids and meeting with author Sherri Flynt, they cut back dramatically and are much more aware of how watching television and other screen time have a direct link to weight gain. Instead of watching TV they read books and play games together as a family which also helps their family relationship become stronger.

Specifically they found success in:

  • Cutting back on screen time
  • Becoming more physically active
  • Reducing fast food consumption
  • Cutting out caffeine
  • Drinking lots of water

The 8-week program results are in and the Compher's did great. They lost 28 pounds as a family, and four inches off their waistlines. "This program makes perfect sense," says Lucia Compher who began taking Braxton to swimming and to play in youth basketball games. "The way the program is set up to slowly make changes as to not put ones body into shock is brilliant!" With the solid foundation they have received by going through the 8-week Lifestyle Change Program the Compher family believes they are on the road to brighter, healthier the future.
